it is what it is

welcome to reality. if you lived here, you’d be home now.

From bad to worse.

July 23rd, 2006

We went to Iraq because Saddam’s supposed WMD stockpile threatened our peace. (See? We’re the Department of Defense. We’re *defending* you — this isn’t unprovoked aggression, golly, gee no! They could hurt us!)

Now, I learn that FAUXNews is already spinning some not-verified ideas (not even the facts, people) to say that Hezbollah might have the WMDs that Saddam never had in the first place. Good fucking god. We’re going to war. Again.

Who wants to bet that, just as we left Afghanistan “unfinished,” that the same will hapen in Iraq, and the new-and-shiny war will become the most important factor in “protecting American peace?”

I no longer think Kevin Phillips was being alarmist.

h/t Echidne for the MM story.

For the record, I’m a decided pacifist and do not believe in pre-emptive wars. However, I would like to add another viewpoint to your post Alli. WMDs were found (reference this story among many in the Washington Post, a very unfavorable paper to Bush)http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/13/AR2005081300530.html

It is just that the WMDs were not found in one place or in numbers they thought they would be found.

Almost every country in the Middle East has WMDs. So do we! I don’t think that is a justification for us to go to war, but let’s face it…having WMDs is not a defensive deterrent. They are for offense. Ours have always been used that way. So will theirs.

I am more curious to see when Iran or Syria starts asking the UN to broker a cease-fire. That will be an indicator as to when the Israelis are starting to do damage to Hezbollah.
