Please watch over the patients in the hospital
and let them

another day, even if they hoped that they would never awake from
Maria shares a prayer, and reminds me yet again why I can imagine becoming a psychologist, but not a psychiatrist.
Without even trying, she also expresses how I often feel about God: questioning, angry, but still looking and hopeful that he/she/it is out there.

Allison, thanks for posting this poem. I agree with it. I have had several sessions with clients in hospitals where they believed a voice was telling them (a voice claiming to be God) that they should: Kill themselves, kill someone else, never talk to another person, poke hot needles into their chest, disbelieve what the first three people say to them, distrust anyone who uses the “magic” word, cut off their finger, cut off their penis, smash their car into a wall. And all of that has happened in the last five years. I just spent time with a very, very close friend who had a manic episode and came out of it standing on a balcony in a different city wondering how he got there. My prayer for all of them is that they will get the help they need and separate God out of the cacophony of voices tormenting them. God never torments, God brings peace to those who want it. my friend on the balcony began to pray immediately and sensed God telling him he was loved and to contact some friends. He did and is doing very well.

Thank you kindly for the link. :) (And, for whatever it is worth, it takes little effort on my part to express frustration!)
